Investing in Gold

Investing in Gold for long term requirements such as for daughters marriage etc is not a good idea considering poor growth rate in Gold.

My general view in regard to gold is that we should buy such qty of gold that is to be used for jewellery etc. for fancy reasons / gifting it at our daughters marriage but not for the sake of money to grow.

I will probably use equity oriented mutual funds for the purpose.

When we buy gold by way of Gold ETF or Gold MFs etc, we are actually buying gold asset. When we sell the gold units, we get back money and not gold.

That said, Gold ETF and such investments can be used for asset diversification and hedging in complex investor portfolios to protect from downward fall in debt and equity asset classes.
