Ways to quit smoking

I am reading The Hindu and happened to look at an article on helpful tips on how to kick the habit of smoking

Immediate: Stop at once. This has been found to be the best way to quit smoking. But in the case of heavy smokers and those who have been smoking for a long time, "Cold Turkey" may not be the best method.

Gradual: Reduce the number of cigarettes gradually each day till you reach the no smoking stage. Another option is to delay lighting up another cigarette until you can go thrrough a day without smoking.

Nicotine Replacement: Heavy smokers can use some form of nicotine replacement, which slowly releases small amounts of nicotine into the body. This allows the body to adjust its dependence on the drug. There is also the patch, inhaler, lozenges or chewing gum, which slowly help wean off cigarettes.

Everyone has their own way to quit. I personally went on the patch for ages to get out of the habbit when others can just wake up in the morning and not have one. It is very hard to stop once you've started.

these ways may not necessarily work for passive smokers..ive seen ppl trying to quit but instead they fall into huge amounts of trauma...but in the end ..its all worth it for sure

When I was a teen, I promised my father I will never start smoking or alcohol, if he, a heavy smoker, quits smoking.

The next day he stopped smoking completely. Remarkable for a person who used to consume 20/30 ciggs a day.
